Winging It

Marwa: Ugh, I hear you about the whole waking up early for work in the morning. And you have family to look after! Best of luck to you.

Stephanie: Oh God, Supernatural. I watched it faithfully-ish from its premier to the season 5 finale. Can't really bring myself to watch it anymore, but I have much love for the show, Kripke, and the Winchesters. And Bobby. I love me some Bobby.

Alda: Congratulations! \o/ You did it. Now you can go travel Europe as long as no volcanoes decide to go off and ruin your plans.

Not sure what I'm going to talk about. Next week is our letters to ourselves. Oh! I did enjoy stalking you guys on facebook :P. lol, just kidding.

So, something about me. Well since Alda talked about music, I guess that's a start (btw I did find OK Computer at the record store. It really is a great CD). There's not much to say. My taste in music is pretty indiscriminate. I like a lot of genres. Though I don't like Screamo, I'm iffy about jazz, I'm not fond of punk no matter its pop status, and I have to be in the mood for the various Metals. I grew up musically literate, meaning that I've been able to read music since I was a little Karena. I had played at least five instruments before I entered high school. That was when I gave up playing music (kind of). I gave it up because I wanted to be different from my brother, sibling rivalry and all that. No matter how good I got I would never shine as brightly as my brother in that regard and it was too disappointing to bear. I also gave it up because I wanted to be able to just enjoy a song again. When I heard a song my mind would break it into parts, figure out what time it was in, and see the note pattern in my head. Jazz gave me headaches, just endless up and down up and down, Jesus. I couldn't just listen to a song. I don't have that problem anymore. Sometimes I miss playing music with other people when I see a live performance and all I feel is what I lost and what I will never be. In the end I don't regret my decision.

I've also danced for a while. When I was a kid I did ballet like so many little girls do. Since, I've also done modern dance, hip hop dance, salsa dancing, various other ballroom dances, and had a brief stint with tap dancing when I was in the chorus of a musical in high school. I don't dance much anymore, though I did go out salsa dancing with the girls a few weeks ago. I wouldn't mind picking it up again. I like the challenge and the grace. I think that maybe I would like to try an African dance. This is a link to a great modern dance. Click it!

I like to paint. When I was in elementary school I created a card logo to go on the back of all of the cards I created for my family called "Spoons". My best friend at the time copied me and made one called "Forks". I like painting my cards and still use the "Spoons" logo to this day. I use watercolors. My favorite painter are Monet and Degas. I like impressionism best. I've done artistic photography with hand developing my film and everything, and I've done journalist photography. Both were pretty fun but a pain in the ass in their own unique way. My favorite artist is Derek Hess (<-link), though I can't draw worth a damn.

Writing is something that I like to do, but I'm reluctant to do so because I always get really into it and I just don't have the time anymore. I used to write fanfiction, which is great fun. It still comforts me to read fanfiction when I have a stressful day. I have a bazillion journals that I've been keeping since I was a wee thing. There are several online, some that I'm sure that I have forgotten about.

So, yeah. I guess I'd conclude that this was about how I grew up neck deep in the arts. Whew, I was actually cohesive. Funny that I had such a background, but aspire for a position in government work. Life takes you to some pretty unexpected places.
