Let's Try This Again

OK, so since I missed doing my introduction in my last post I'll be doing that in this post. But first, Responses:

Bakari: I was totally pronouncing your name wrong. Good looking out. And my sandwich was awesome. :) On the topic of the "flavor", just post what you're interested that week. Any common theme should happen organically, but we don't need to have the same theme every week (or ever really)

Marwa: I used to be a girl scout, but I only made it to Junior Girl Scouts before I quit. A friend of mine made eagle scout (boy scouts) and I was a bit jealous. And it's cookie season! You must be busy.

Reilly: I am seriously looking forward to your analysis of Toddlers and Tiaras. That show is all kinds of trashy TV and I have yet to find anyone who would admit to liking it, but people must be watching it if it's still on. It's so strange to me that psychology would be considered an art. It would be called a social science at my university. They're "soft science" in contrast to other science fields. And get well soon! Give those germs a piece of my mind. :P

Alda: 21 is a bigger celebration. It's the legal drinking age in the US and it's kind of rite of passage that someone buys them their first (legal) drink. Life is...*sigh* Not the best right now for various reasons. Thanks for asking. :) I want to travel to South America as well! I want to go to Chile, Peru, Uruguay, or Argentina. I've heard great things from volunteers in Peru and books have made the other three seem appealing. I study economics so Bolivia would be great place to study as well! I really need to improve my Spanish though. And your song made my Friday so much happier. Friday I'm in lo~ve

You guys are awesome (redundant because you're nerdfighters). I had a crappy week last week and your posts made my day.

Now, intro:

Um, hello, I'm Karena. It's pronounced Kuh-ree-nuh, not Karen-a or Kuh-ren-uh. Didn't even think about how it was pronounced until Bakari said something.

I'm from southern Arizona (about 45 minutes from the Mex/Am frontera/border by car).I'm 22, making me the oldest and only non-teen. \0/ I'm in my last year studying to get my BA in Economics with a minor in Geography and Regional Development. I had a bumpy college experience that lead to me going to community college for a quick minute and consequently earned an Associates Degree in Liberal Arts. That and my fickle personality have made me know a little about a whole lot of things. A jack of all trades I guess.

I have an older brother. He's a musician and photographer and wants to open a restaurant. My parents are still together and are degreed professionals but due to [not gonna talk about it] may not have jobs within a year. My dad was in the Air Force and the stories him and his friends told me from their travels during dinner parties made me want to see the world so I aspire to get a job that allows me to travel. I hope to get a job at a consulate or embassy overseas. If I don't I may cry.

I've been really into TV shows in the last couple years. I'm currently making my way through White Collar. I love a good con. Some shows I watch are Community, Eureka, Leverage, Glee, Bones, and No Reservations. And there are more. I used to be into anime/manga, but not so much anymore. The only anime I still watch is One Piece, but I've been watching it since I was 13 and I'm in for the long haul.

I love experiencing new things (especially food. You'll probably hear a lot more from me about food). I look forward to furthering this still unnamed blog.

Edit: spell checked!

It's Friday I'm in love.

Hello people. My name is Alda and this is my first blog on this site. Alda means ocean wave in Icelandic and my middle name, Lilja, means Lily, like the flower. I come from the future, so I might post on other hours than you guys! And by "the future" I mean, of course, Iceland, because I live somewhere in the Atlantic ocean on an deserted island. The land of sudden weather change and where the devil is supposed to live.

Anyways, how's life? Mine is good, I'm currently studying in college and finishing this spring. I study classics/languages and my main focus is on Latin, Icelandic and English. I also study Spanish and German and I finished Danish, so please, pick your language, I speak them all (kidding). When I finish college I will be traveling Europe, that is, if I get a job. I'm going with 4 of my friends and we are starting in Amsterdam going all way down to either Italy or Spain, wether is better. Can't wait!

My interests are mostly art and music. I like drawing and painting, I have a page for my art if anyone's interested, it's on facebook and I post one drawing for each day, it's facebook.com/aldaart and then I have a tumblr where I post some of my recent work. Obviously languages are a big part of my life and I love learning about culture and most of all, experience it by traveling. I want to travel everywhere, with Middle-Europe next year and probably South America the year after that I really want to go to India or Mexico to volunteer, helping kids or animals. I was going to go this year but I don't have enough money.

This week was good, I got my tattoo fixed and it looks all pretty now. I also got my favorite tattooist to touch my back and say "hey, that's a cool tattoo... who did it?" and I was kind of startstruck for a moment there. I also drew a photo (by request) of a angry, purple, octopus, I think he looks quite good.

This weekend I'm going to a birthday party, actually a double-birthday-party, with two of my friends turning 20 so it's kind of a big thing. Which do you guys celebrate more, 20 or 21?

We finished week one of our blog project (?), I'm proud!

My favorite song to start the weekend:

Can't wait to read more on Monday (or likely Tuesday reading for me) and maybe talk to some of you on Skype or something.

Have amazing weekend everybody,
Alda.

Hey World!

My name is Reilly, pronounced like Riley but spelled in a much more awesome way.  Akin to what Marwa, Bakari, and Karena have posted this week, I too will post a short autobiography.

I, unfortunately, don't have any sort of title, sick-amazing-sweet subject I'm studying in University, or job to slide in here.  I'm just a high school student, aged 15.  (When I wrote that number I got the haunting suspicion that I was being laughed at.  Please don't hurt me! ...Bro.)

So I'm Irish, but I live in Toronto, Canada.  I lived for 2 years in St John's, Newfoundland and Labrador, on the east coast, then in Thunder Bay, Ontario, near the north, then in London, Ontario, in the south, and now; the big smoke.

So, I was planning on writing a post all about why I love the show Toddlers and Tiaras because of the interesting contrast it draws between the parents motivation to put their babies and toddlers into pageants, and the children's motivations to be in them such as "because I'm pretty; because of money; because I like winning; et cetera," but that will be saved for another run-on sentence for another date.

I've spent all week, since last Friday sick and in bed with a chest infection and so I'm running low on happenings in my life and and quickly becoming overstocked on symptoms of cabin fever.

So, onto my family.  My brother is 20 years old and is currently getting a his BA in Psychology (it's not an art, it's a science but it's considered an art because it's less comprehensive and requires less maths and sciences in England) at the University of Liverpool.  My mother, whom I live with, is the Dean of Education at OISE (Ontario Institute for Studies in Education) at the University of Toronto.  And my father, whom I don't speak to on moral grounds, is the Chair for Developmental Psychology at the University of Lancaster in Lancaster, UK.  I just found out he is publishing 2 books with the Oxford University press, which is kind of cool, but the coolness was damped down by the fact that I had to Google him to even find out what his job was.

That's all for today, and I wanted to end this post nicely with a photo:

Harry Potter Week!!!!

Hello everyone, happy Harry Potter week to you all! Oh, is that just at my school? Either way, it’s a nerdily auspicious week during which to start the blog, don’t you think? In any case, I feel that introductions are in order before we move onto the actual blogging. I apologize in advance for my general lack of writing skills.

I’m Marwa. I’m an 18 year old college sophomore in the United States who is studying Political Science and Pre-med. I was born here in the US, but most of my family is in Egypt, where my parents were born. My hobbies include reading, watching vlogbrothers videos, playing video games, magic the gathering, and generally nerding out. (I must say, writing this while watching Harry Potter makes this experience all the better. So as you read, I want you to imagine that you hear Tom Riddle and Harry Potter discussing Ginny’s imminent death in the background).

Anyway, I also do some various martial arts and am a girl scouts troop leader (don’t even ask about that last one, I’m not sure how that happened either). I have 2 brothers (7 and 20 years old) and a sister (13 years old) and share a house with my older brother on the campus of my college.

In the future, I’ll probably talk a lot about general day to day stuff, as well as books, and may occasionally veer into politics, but I’ll try to keep that to a bare minimum.

I am, of course, looking forward to Reilly’s post tomorrow, and will be writing again soon. Hope your week is full of Harry Potter and other forms of joy. HAPPY HARRY POTTER WEEK!!!

Oh, and in case anyone was wondering about the interim title, it just refers to another idea for a title that I said made me want to poke my eyes out. Rest assured, my eyes thus far are ungouged.

First!

Hehe, get it? Because on YouTube everyone tries to post "First!" and as a result you see like seven or eight comments in a row saying it...
MOVING ON.
Hello, hello! Bakari here. That's pronounced BAH-kuh-ree, not buh-KAH-ree.

My mom's watching a documentary on the History channel about the Bat Bomb, which I guess was a weapon that the U.S. planned to use against the Japanese utilizing tiny incendiary bombs strapped to bats. WTF, right?

So yeah, I'm a nineteen year old American nerd. I also practice Choy Li Fut Kung Fu, Yang-style Tai Chi, and Western Kickboxing. Combine that with my love for Hank and John Green and that makes me quite the nerdfighter!

Karena, your post about your sandwich made me quite happy! I'm really glad you put your money to that cause. It's very easy to want to help, and if you have the money, it's very easy to throw food at hungry people. And mind you me, I think it's wonderful that people put their time and money toward doing this, but what made me really happy about this Hungry Nation thing is that they're helping impoverished people develop a self-reliance, and that's infinitely better than sending over any amount of rice or what have you.

Give a man a fish, you know?

Well, since we haven't really established our flavor of the week yet, I'm gonna keep this one pretty brief. I kinda wanted to write a huge autobiography here, but I think you'll get to know plenty about me through my future posts.
So happy Tuesday (or Wednesday depending on your area) and Karena, I hope your sandwich was awesome!

Looking forward to reading your post tomorrow, Marwa!

First!

Hello all, nerdfighter or otherwise inclined, welcome to this not yet named blog. I'm Karena, the Monday poster. I was going to do an introduction, but I only have 20 minutes to do this today and what I'm into this week is finishing my assignments on time so this is going to be quick.

Also, today I had a $10 dollar lunch. Not something ordinary for me because I'm a penny pinching college student. It was all because I had to have this $5 doller grilled cheese sandwhich.

I could have had one for two dollers, but decided on the $5 one because unlike its cheaper counterpart all of the 5 dollers went to a charity called Hungry Nation. It is a student charity that works to help regions of the world with starving people develop a self relience toward developing enough food for their people, with the ultimate goal of ending world hunger. I thought they could put those 3 extra dollers to better use than I could.

Their wesite is http://www.thp.org/ if you are interested in knowing more.

Also, the other $5 went to that bodacious fruit cup in the background there.
