F is for frustration

I can't help but get Friday by Rebecca Black stuck in my head every Friday.

Karena, your definition of obsession amused me, haha! I started thinking more about healthy and unhealthy obsessions. Made me think of my friend's obession with her boyfriend, I think it has come to the "stalker" stage.

Marwa, hey! Happy you did a blogpost, and holy crap, I'm in love with the video you put with. I'm honestly going trough this guy's videos watching everything. Speaking of violins, the most annoying thing ever is neighbours trying to LEARN to play the violin, even though it's sooo beautiful when you've got the hang of it or know how to play it it sounds so terrible when people are starting to learn it, playing the ABC or something over and over again haha. I wish I could play it, dang.

Stephanie, welcome. My parents go every year to Florida, haha. Nice to have someone blogging on Thursdays again! C:

Soo. One thing that annoys me is the word "talent" and "luck"- or well, in Icelandic, I think it has a slight different meaning, not really sure if it has the same 'vibe' in English language (that's the fun part about languages, kids). Or well, when people tell me I'm so lucky I have the talent to draw it makes me frustrated, I'm not lucky - I earned it, not saying I'm especially good (honestly, comparing myself to others makes me feel like I'm a 10-year-old fingerpainting) - but I've been drawing for the last 15 years or so - THAT'S why I'm better than the ones who have never drawn anything in their life try and go "oh, you're so lucky..."
But of course, not everybody's good at everything, I guess it's partly genetic.

Memem. Currently (or well, 15 minutes ago) I'm studying Latin - can't... do... more...

I can't feel my hands, it's alright.
Since we're (I'm) speaking of studying, I just realized that I do a lot of flower-patterns in my books. Especially around the holes in the pages (know what I'm talking about? no? alright)
Craaaaaaaaving a tattooo or piercing. It's like a disease!

Adios, chicas!

So, I'm New Here

Hello! I'm Stephanie, and I'll be blogging here on Thursdays. I'll start out by telling you guys some stuff about me, and I'll just be more interesting as time goes on. There's a picture of me before I chopped my hair off.
So, about me.
I'm nineteen years old. I was born in New Jersey, but moved to Florida seven years ago. I'm a biomedical student at the University of South Florida, focusing on pre-veterinary medicine. I'll probably talk about my life in school a lot, as well as my enormous family and my rather interesting group of friends.
I watch a lot of American football and hockey. I'm really into college football here, and I follow the rankings very closely. I will hopefully be in marching band next semester, so I'll post some updates and some pictures from our games and other adventures.
Until the next semester starts, I'll be babysitting this adorable little baby girl named Jada, and I hope I'll have some interesting stories of my days with her.
So, hello out there. I'm Stephanie. And I'm pretty awesome (but that may just be a personal opinion).

Wednesday, 27 April 2011

Hey guys, sorry I didn't post last week. I have a really good excuse though, promise! I spent most of that night at the library studying for a final I had the next morning, slept for like two hours, and went to take the test, then napped in the student union, rehearsed, then did my final scene for intro to performance. really, most tiring day ever. not really, but pretty close lol.

In other news, a couple of wasps have taken up residence in my bedroom. sigh... I don't know what I'm going to do about them. feel free to leave suggestions in the comments (again, if I actually get comments I will promptly die of shock).

Really, there isn't much going on these days. finishing up school stuff, getting ready to start working more over the summer at the lab, and helping friends pack to go home for the summer.

Wow, that was a really boring blog post, wasn't it. Thankfully, I haz solution. watch this!

new blogger

We got someone to take Thursdays for us. Yay!

Obsession

So today I did not feel like writing in the blog, and not just because of the impending doom stack of assignments that I always need to get done. No, it's because I'd rather be watching NCIS.

It is this freakin' show that I can't get out of my head. Now I have it in my mind to watch as many episodes as I can. It's like a combination of my summer obsession with Bones (where I tracked the TV schedule tirelessly) and my winter obsession with White Collar (renting seasons at the video store). There are 8 seasons!

Which brings me to the topic of this post: Obsession, the healthier kind. All obsession is is toxic to me. Anything that distracts me from not experiencing everything I can makes me nervous. But the geeky obsessions that give the shiny, candy coating over Nerdfighteria's creamy, chocolaty goodness seem to be on the lower end of the spectrum. Of course, a measurement has no meaning without a contextual marker. Let's say that the spectrum is something like this:

boyband fans---------Geekdom---------Internet e-l33t---------stalkers--------serial killers

My current (and previous) TV obsession would fall under Geekdom. It's not really going to hurt anyone, but it can lead to poor work performance, underdeveloped social skills, and bad dieting habits. All scientifically proven through self experimentation and research through many "fandoms".

I believe that all of my obsessions should never go above Geekdom, though I have briefly grazed the underbelly of the Internet e-l33t. The Videogame Obsessed would fall somewhere between Geekdom and Internet e-l33t with the more obsessed enacting major hax.

Obsessions are fun, but they always get old for me and I move on to the next. But it is important to keep what is important to you near always, even through obsessions that take up a great deal of your time. I must always remember to build a life for myself. Hope to see you on Wednesday this time Marwa.

Ciao ladies (and lol Alda, that second picture).

Eye of Sauron, the ring and Frodo (yo)! trying to make the sad/wounded face he pulls trough all of the movies (/trying not to laugh?)
SO, my life's good. I'm still alive. Did you guys make a thingie to ask people to join our blog? No? I'll make it now (anything but study, please). DOING IT RIGHT NOW!

About the carseat rules, I get so annoyed when I see too young children not on proper seat. I don't believe people would put their kids through such a risk. Common!

First day of summer yesterday (in Iceland?), last time I saw snow coming from the heavens was Wednesday. Boo, great. No snow today though. Hate snow.

I'm going to London

I'm restless, trying to study, got 3 exams next week and 3 the week after that, after that I'm almost done. After that I'll stop writing about weather and exams, promise. Making my friends crazy talking about Latin and Icelandic exams. Sorry, guys.

Got to eat. :3 Buy.

Better Late Than Never

Hello my fellow G-bloggers. Another late post, but I made it on time.

It is so hot right now in my room and it's not even close to summer temperatures yet. I'll have to sleep above my blanket tonight.

Good looking out on the car seat rules Marwa. I don't have any small children in my life, but this is good to know. Every time I find out something new about raising kids, that every other girl seems to know about, I always feel inadequate but grateful too. Of all the things I don't know about raising children at least I know that.

It is the last day that I will be posting during Lent. Hopefully I'll get to post about the town I'm from and schtuff, with pictures and the like. I can't wait to be able to browse the internet again. It's so close and the anticipation is killing me. All I want to do right now is read bad NCIS fanfiction. The craving is so strong but I must not give in to temptation. It is actually appropriate to think WWJD (What Would Jesus Do) which is greatly amusing for me. Just six more days.

Also, Frodo pictures por favor. I want to see them!

ciao ladies (and Bruce).

place to hide

Sorry for the late post, my poor macbook deceided to die on me. Fuck. I feel like I lost my right hand. Maybe it's the perfect time for having a broken computer, not constantly checking facebook while I have my exams. 1 down, 14 to go (puke). Can't wait to finish, it's going to be such a relief.

I got a summer job. I'm thinking in Danish right now so if I write something weird it's probably Danish (ergo I'm super careful right now writing in the right language, heh). I'll be working in a cemetary, it's actually my third... or fourth? summer working there. I'm also very likely going to London in July with my friends. Exciting, yay.

And yes, I'm not in a very good mood right now, I just wanted to put this blog post up so you wouldn't think I was bailing like the other two that were with us in the beginning (bitches)

AND YES, I was hobbit last Tuesday, it was "Dimissio" which means "send away" in Latin and everybody who's graduating this year dressed up, my class dressed up as Lord of the Rings, I was Frodo.
Hate this computer, it won't let me upload photos! I'll add them tomorrow if I get to another one.

alright, auf wiedersehen.

Why Mika is awesome, and why I get no work done

Hello all! this week and next are shaping up to be pretty hectic, but not too bad I hope. Finals are coming up, I have a bunch of assignments to work on, and my mother may or may not be leaving my younger siblings with me this weekend while she goes to North Carolina. As much as I love them, I don't think I'll get much studying done with them around. On the other hand, there are a variety of reasons for why I don't get much done anyway.

Today's example: Mika.

I was all set to give you an explanation as to why mika is awesome, about how he is one of a few artists recently who aren't completely heteronormative, and how his music is fun but still has an empowering message, etc, etc, but really, you just need to listen to him, and it will explain far better than I ever could. so click HERE, HERE, and HERE.

You're welcome.

P.S: On a wholly unrelated note, depending on where you live carseat laws will vary. but no matter where you are, it really isn't safe for a small child to be sitting without some sort of child restraint or booster seat. I say this because I was discussing my little brother's booster seat with a friend earlier this week and he was surprised that little bro still needed one. but little bro is 7, and is therefore nowhere near tall enough. the best way to determine if a child is ready to ride without a booster is to see if they pass the Five Step Test. In any case, our state law is that children under 8 years old must be in a booster or car seat. So he is pretty much stuck no matter which way he tries to wriggle out of it lol.

Ugh

I just got home and I am super tired. Also it is still Lent which means short post.

Congratulations Alda! \o/ You're done. I know that you're sad about ending college, but it's also a good thing too, right?

I thought that we were supposed to get to know each other through this blog, but sure. We need to figure out that group chat thing (or at least I do).

Agreed that we should recruit through Yourpants. You guys would have to do it. I'm still off the rest of the interwebs until Lent is over (April 23rd)

I was thinking about the format of the blog. I think that it would do us some good to have a bit more structure. I was thinking that we do this vlogbrothers style where someone posts about...something, and the bloggers after them write about something that relates to the topic of the first blog. Then the next week someone else gets the first post and all of the bloggers that find a similar topic. The first poster would also be last poster of the same topic. What do you think? Should we just keep to the same format?

Blah. I may be going to Santiago, Chile in the Fall *knock on wood*. Not a sure thing though. Also,is anyone else having trouble with formatting? I have to create space between paragraphs manually with html.

Yellow Submarine

Hiya!
1. I have headache. Höfuðverk. Kopfschmerzen.
Had my first exam today, art history, went okay I think.
I'm also hungry. Omnom.

2. Wathcing LotR - Two Towers tonight. Got my Frodo costume almost finished, you'll see it next Friday when I'll post photos.

3. Monday's my last day of college *cry* - it's gonna be so sad.

4. Don't have enough concentration to post more than short sentences at a time, sorry.
ANYWAYS. New people? I think we should find find them on the Yourpants forum and let them introduce themselves and decide together from that.

Which takes me to the next subject: Why aren't we getting to know each other? I wants group chat on skype or facebook or you know...

5. Holy crap, I'm in love with this girl, Charmaine Olivia, she's so beautiful and her work is even more beautiful (please be a lesbian, please be alesbian!!). Find her on facebook.

Wheat, Barley, and Rye, and why they are all making me miserable

Hello everyone (and by everyone I basically just mean bruce since I'm pretty sure he's the only one who reads this thing. If anyone other than bruce reads this, post a comment saying hi and I will promptly die of shock).

I have a few things to talk about today. One could say this post comes to you in 3 parts, vlogbrothers style.

Part the First!
a small public service announcement: 1 in 133 people (or thereabouts) have celiac disease. many of these people have no symptoms, and only find out they have a problem when they find out they are severely anemic or are suffering from multiple nutritional deficiencies. even more people are gluten intolerant, meaning that they don't actually have celiac disease, but they can't really digest gluten. Gluten is a protein found in wheat, barley, and rye and products derived from them. so, if you have any of the following SYMPTOMS, consider getting tested. and if the test comes back negative, go on a gluten free diet for a couple of weeks and see if you feel better. if you do, you may be gluten intolerant.

Part 2:
Dr. Horrible's Sing Along Blog. Don't question it.

Part 3:
today, I met Satan. In the form of a dental hygienist. Somehow, the student who cleaned my teeth managed to do so pretty painlessly and without too much bloodshed. the supervisor, however, would simply take one of her very pointy instruments, stick it in my mouth, and proceed to flail it around at random (insert dirty joke here. hahaha, etc., moving on). this occurred repeatedly over the course of almost 3 hours. However, I received some measure of satisfaction from demanding that she find me the ingredients for the brand of toothpaste they use for polishing to ensure it is gluten free. she then proceeded to actually check for the word gluten in the ingredients list. I feel like she is confused as to how these things actually work.

Bonus section- Part 4:
how do you want to find more people? post a thread on yourpants, or get people we know so we can punish them if they miss a day? I vote we find people on yourpants personally. also, I can't think of a title. at all. but I will try to over the next couple of days.

anyway, I'm going to go listen to some more songs from Dr. Horrible's Sing Along Blog now.
Toodles!

Almost Forgot

Lent=short. Busy=extra short.

Hi guys. I was thinking (a dangerous pastime, I know). Should we recruit new people to post on Tuesday and Thursday? Thoughts?

Alda, remind me again on Friday about the art stuff. Though I wouldn't trust mail with me. I've never gotten a package/letter sent through the mail actually reach the recipient. I'm 0 for 0.

No time to post anything much today because I am mad busy finishing up a class. Tootles!

LotR

I just watched LotR - The Fellowship of the Ring. I watched the movies when they came out sometime way back and I didn't like it that much, then I watched this now and I'm amazed! This is so great I watched the extended version of The Fellowship of the Ring. The music, the plot, the characters, speechless.

Having spent the last 4 hours of my life watching this movie I'm deeply craving reading the books. I read The Hobbit at school 3 years ago, but that was obligatory reading so I didn't put my mind to it. I hate the fact that everything is more boring when you HAVE to do it, ugh.

Going to work on my essay, I'm writing a short story to criticize the way of handling in rape-issues in Iceland (or from what I've heard in other countries too). Basically, read this and you'll get what I'm saying. I hope none of you have had or will have to go through this because this is fucking disgusting. But lets not get too personal here, not intending to kill your mood.

To merrier matters! My Bollywood party was great, I wasn't very ambitious on my costume though, I put a pink thingie over my shoulder and was wearing a dress under and then I put a necklace on my head so that I had a heart on my forehead, hehee! I danced for hours and I didn't get home until around 6 or 6:30 in the morning. I love my life.

Has anyone of you traveled to Europe and has seen something interesting? I'm making a list of countries and cities/pueblos/jarijari on my way from Holland to Italy/Spain, got some interesting places marked on a map but I need more ideas.

Have a nice weekend, I'm posting on a reasonable hour now in Eemerica, right? It's 1:22 AM local time (I feel like an airplane now, hehehe). Shit. What's the word for the state you go into when you're tired and get all giggly and weird? That's how I feel right now. Must... get... some... sleep. (/stop writing before I write something too weird-o)

1) I hate how cheap things are in America. I need color pencils BUT it usually doubles when it has shipped to Iceland (taxes, tolls + reporting and sooo many things). DO YOU WANT TO SEND ME MY PRISMACOLORS IF I SEND IT TO YOUR ADDRESS AND SEND IT TO ME (I'd pay, of course, the shipping and the pencils)
2) I love you.

Sleep. Bye.
- Wave Lily.
